Do you recall the last time you changed your toothbrush? Hygiene is an alluring concept but many don’t always make the connection between the fresh feel of a new pillow and the prevention of infections.
To get started, here are some basic guidelines for common hygiene products.
- Toothbrush– Are you really trading yours in every three months? Real talk: if your bristles look frayed, it’s time for a new brush.
- Kitchen sponges– Depending on how often you use them, they should actually be replaced about every two weeks. And make sure to disinfect regularly, no matter how “clean” it feels.
- Pillows– This may not be obvious, but inexpensive pillows should be replaced every 6 months. If you have memory foam pillows, you should be set for 2-3 years.
- Loofahs– Literally all the time! Replace yours at least once a month, or else you’re basically just cleaning yourself with bacteria.
- Mascara– Even fancy mascaras need to be replaced every 2-4 months, especially if you wear contacts.
